There were many well known faces in attendance at the ribbon cutting of the new and improved parking lot at Our Lady of Fatima Villa. To names just a few: Bishop Patrick McGrath of the Archdiocese of San Jose; Saratoga City Council members Manny Capello and Mary Lynn Bernald; Jerry Bruce from the Saratoga Federated Church; and former Mayor Chuck Page. The ribbon was cut by former Saratoga Citizen of the Year Marilyn White.
When it came to deciding who would officially cut the ribbon for the opening ceremony for the new parking lot, the unanimous choice was former Saratoga Citizen of the Year and resident of Our Lady of Fatima Villa -- Marilyn White. She did a fabulous job and received much applause and admiration from the crowd. A very fitting person to handle the job!
We heard many people say, "I've never been to a parking lot ribbon cutting ceremony before" -- it may be a first for over 100 people who have already said they will be there on December 8th to officially celebrate our new and improved parking lot. The new lot provides greater safety and convenience for our residents, families and staff!
Our Lady of Fatima Villa is home to our many residents -- so it is fitting that they invited their families to join them for Thanksgiving dinner. We always look forward to seeing sons, daughters, grandchildren and friends celebrate the holiday with us. This year was particularly joyful -- the dining rooms were full with families and friends.
Anna Gene, resident and horticulturist, headed up this year's gardening program. Residents grew tomatoes, eggplants -- a variety of vegetables and flowers. It was a wonderful project and we thank Anna! Here she is harvesting the last of the summer vegetable crop!
Our residents are active and interested in their world -- they love outings! A group took a tour of the Rengstorff House, the oldes house in Mountain View and a wonderful sample of Georgian architecture. Lunch was served at a restuarant overlooking our beautiful San Francisco Bay!
Our new parking lot is now open. The next phase involves new landscaping. We hope to have the new landscaping complete by the official parking lot opening ceremony on December 8.
Our residents are well fed with great meals prepared by Check Jose. But it's fun to "go-back-to-the-kitchen" every once in a while. Activity Director Red Concepcion added some spice with a salsa making demonstration. Residents chopped, mixed...and then ate!
